![]() ![]() As they get more comfortable, I like to choose songs that create an atmosphere that the students can play around in. When teaching students who have had little experience improvising, I like to start with sounds and songs that clearly evoke a certain energy quality and I have the students move immediately with the sound they hear, reacting to it's energy. It's such a hard thing to do! Few things make me more proud than to see a student have the courage to really move in the moment. I love seeing young dancers embrace improvisation and put themselves in a place of vulnerability. This week I am going to be doing some improvisational activities with one of my dance classes that explore the elements of time and energy. I don't know about you, but I feel like this time of year, as the last weeks of winter seem to drag on, I need a lot of inspiration! So, this post is my pre-spring inspirational gift to you. ![]() However, today as I contemplated the lessons I will be teaching in my dance classes the upcoming week, I realized now is the perfect time for a new list of music inspiration. Between the excitement, nerves, planning, and continuing to teach, I've certainly had a lot on my mind lately. It is exciting to see these kids immerse themselves in a performance and accomplish things they didn't think were possible.Įven more exciting than the musical though, is the news that I am going to be mother! I am expecting a baby in early September. As always, choreographing the school musical was a busy, but rewarding experience. ![]() Those rehearsals continued until the performance at the beginning of this month. In November, I started running choreography rehearsals for the production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at the the school I teach at. Well, it has been a looong time since my last post. ![]()
